Carcassonne: Experience the Magic of a Real-Life Disneyland Castle in Van Life France!

This leg of our European summer motorhome adventure takes us from the peaceful harbour town of Mèze, known as the “Venice of France,” to the breathtaking medieval city of Carcassonne. Waking up on the sunny south coast, we explore the harbour cafés before hopping on a short boat ride to Sète. Its charming canals, vibrant markets, and historic streets offer endless discoveries, from colourful produce stalls to hidden squares and fountains.

Along the way, we share a big update — our self-built camper van, Taylor, is up for raffle, and we reveal all the details. Back in Mèze, we finally take delivery of a replacement drone after the last one was stolen in Rome, though our excitement is cut short when we discover the batteries are dead.

Leaving the coast behind, we arrive at an unexpectedly luxurious camping car park with a pool, before heading into the fortified city of Carcassonne. This UNESCO World Heritage site stuns with its double-walled defences, towering turrets, and centuries of history. We walk the full three-kilometre perimeter, explore the basilica, navigate labyrinthine streets, and even pay to enter the castle for panoramic views. From jousting arenas to medieval wells, every corner is steeped in history — and it truly feels like stepping into a fairytale.
